Blog No 168 – UK Mother’s Day

Today is Mother’s Day in the UK, therefore Happy Mother’s Day to all mothers out there. I’m unfortunately not a mother but I’m a Godmother and Aunt so I’m as good as a mother on another level. I got a beautiful card from my Goddaughter H for Mothers Day. Thank you H 💕

Considering I was living in Canada for years, I’m still tuned in to Mother’s Day being in May, I guess its hard to switch off. This year all mothers are in lockdown so I hope all children have been very creative. I’m sure more thought has to go into gifts and trying to make their day as special due to covid restrictions.

I’ve already spoke to my mother today and she is lavished with cards & gifts. She said she was going to have a relaxing day and have some chocolate.

To all those children who have lost their mother’s, I’m sure it’s a very hard day for you. Nevertheless, I’m confident that all your mothers are smiling as they’ve never been forgotten by their loved ones.

Can I include pets as my children, I’m sure there is a lot of people who do. My pets Lottie (dog) & Hamish (cat) have selfishly absorbed all the love today with cuddles and belly rubs.

I hope all new & old mothers have a wonderful day. Love to you all. 💗

Weekly Blog No 93 – It’s My Birthday

I’m happy to report I’ve made another birthday and I’m still in my 40’s. When you are informed by a doctor that you have cancer you certainly don’t anticipate celebrating many birthdays in the near future. This is in fact my 4th birthday since diagnosis, however my Oncologist did inform me in 2014, I have about 3 yrs to live so if his prediction is correct this is my last birthday. I can assure you im not treating this as my last birthday

My intention was to get some of my friends together for coffee and cake but I’ve not been so good lately, which is a shame as I do love, a girlie get together.

I was showered with cards and gifts from family and friends. I literally got everything  I needed and Zebrakat favorites. I have a stash of reading material. Some new authors and bibliographies to open my mind up to other people’s lives. Some music to pass the time away whilst doing chores. I shall smell beautiful from all the products that I received.  I can indulge in some online shopping too, the gifts were endless. Thank you to all those people who showered me with gifts.

My birthdays are not exactly celebrated like I used too. I have even been known in the past to be in some exotic location on my birthday consuming cocktails. I will continue to make the best of every birthday where ever I am, that’s for sure. ❤

Weekly Blog No 87 – Letters & Cards

image

I’m writing this blog because someone mentioned receiving cards through the post on social media. No one sends a letter or even cards so much these days. Computers and social media have taken over the art of handwriting.

There is no denying that we all smile when we see a handwritten envelope coming through the letter box. Hence it’s not a computer generated bill or marketing literature. Letters & cards are more of a personal gesture and shows a noticeable effort from the sender.

Do we smile in the same way when we receive a happy birthday on social media, I’m not sure. We are unquestionably grateful that someone has said happy birthday but it’s usually due to a prompt reminder on social media.

When writing a letter, it’s more personal and the content can be more intimate. I’m sure the intimate contents of your letter would not be displayed all over your social media. Furthermore you somewhat take the time to choose a card, with the right wording & picture. It’s then handwritten with befitting message, sealed, stamped and mailed away.

Social media is beyond any doubt less tasking, there’s no money involved in purchases and caters by its immediate action. Social media is especially good if you live overseas, keeping your family & friends upto date with news and photos. This has been extremely helpful in my situation. I couldn’t imagine writing over 100 letters to keep people involved.

Is letter writing and card sending a dying gesture of kindness! I do send letters and I categorically send cards. Maybe we should all send more letters, rekindle the excitement of receiving mail through the letter box. Let’s bring back paper, handwriting and postage stamps. Endorse being creative and bring back smiles.
